Rays Move On Top
August 4th 2010 12:52
When I came home last night from work I was stunned to see that the Tampa Rays moved in front of the Yankees for the best overall record in baseball. You may be asking why this stunned me? Considering the Yankees payroll is over 200 million dollars, the assumption is that they should have the best record in baseball. In fact, the top three organizations with the highest payroll are the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies and we can all see how well the Red Sox and the Phillies are playing this year despite injuries.
With the Rays overall team salary just around 40 million dollars a year, it is fun to see a small market team continuously cause issues agains the assumptions of so many experts. Maybe there is some correlation? At this point I am stumped. I just hope that the Rays will continue to the playoffs and who knows, maybe they will actually win the World Series this time around.
