Dally M Predictions

September 9th 2008 00:29
The Dally M medal wil be announced tonight, ending months of speculation over who is to be crowned the winner of this prestigious medallion.

Whoever wins this medal tonight, they will certainly be overshadowed by the one certainty of the night; the Captain of the Year award. This will without doubt be presented to Raiders skipper Alan Tongue.

Whether he's lapping up tackles or licking his many battle scars, Tongue's performance as leader of an under-manned Raiders outfit has had many media pundits eliciting a salivatory response. Finally, Alan will taste recognition on the tip of his (surname), after years of suffering from a low profile that is part and parcel of being skipper of the NRL's most neglected and rarely spoken of non-Sydney club.

Ricky Stuart has been suggested as Coach of the Year by many sections of the media, however his dull, uninspiring brand of football is surely not worthy of congratulations. A more likely winner would be the ever-green Wayne Bennett, or perhaps even Neil Henry, completing a potential double for the Raiders.

As for the Dally M winner?

Its got to be Billy Slater. Kurt Gidley will come close but Slater should get the nod, even though he will incur a 3 point penalty for a suspension he earned earlier in the year. Watch out for a barnstorming Terry Campese in the last 6/7 rounds. He must have claimed at least 14 points towards the end of the season.

Slater will only get the award when all possibilities and triangulations of somehow giving it to Johnathon Thurston have been exhausted. Watch for Thurston to still miraculously be in the finish and to possibly even pick up the odd point in the games he missed through injury. It's gonna be a close call...!
