Candice Falzon and the 'Game of Love'
May 7th 2008 06:21
It is commonly known that the muscle-bound footballer attracts a certain type of lady. A bright young lass with an apitude for science, humanities and all things academia, will naturally gravitate towards a footballer whose I.Q generally will fail to be the square root of whatever number is on the back of his jersey.
Of course i write the above paragraph in jest - but only to highlight the various affiliations that a certain sportswoman has had with high profile athletes. The lass i refer to, is Candice Falzon.
While you may be asking yourself; "Who is Falzon", and why on earth write a blog about her, i can assure you that it is only because i have little else to comment on at the moment - and felt the desire for a good ol' fashioned gripe. Nonetheless, Falzon has demonstrated the penchant for athletes that i thought only applicable to lower class "geordies", hunting for the lastest young Premier League star in... (insert bad Northern English nightclub).
While Falzon has had trysts with numerous rugby league players: namely Braith Anasta and Sonny Bill Williams, and has even crossed "codes", to include a disgraced Rugby Union player, Matt Henjak, whom she broke up with due to rumours that she was dating Sydney F.C. player David Carney. She currently is rumoured to be dating Brent Staker - victim of the infamous Barry Hall "brain-snap".
Not content to settle for footballers only, she also enjoyed a dalliance with "Little Britain" star David Walliams, with highly publicised photos being published back in Walliams' home, the UK. On the local front, she has also dated Australian soapie actor Daniel MacPherson. Of course, her most famous incident was in a Clovelly nightclub with Sonny Bill, where a patron with incredible foresight managed to procure footage of the two enjoying a romantic moment in a toilet cubicle. However my favourite rumoured Falzon tryst involves Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis! Kudos to Falzon, because logistically all these celebrity match-ups could not have been easy to facilitate. So local, international sportsmen and international television stars have all been covered by Falzon - a commendable effort. At least one can say that she is not prejudiced to any code/celebrity/human.
As her ironwoman tag suggests, Falzon clearly has a lot of testosterone build-up, and a desire to build a media career on the back of these affiliations with celebrities. However can these actions be seen as undermining the very thing she craves, respect? Personally, the amount of respect that one commands is hardly demonstrated in this manner - unless you are a rugby league player in the 80s, or perhaps a certain modern day leg-spinner.
Falzon's media career has about as much chance as a Russian small business, and her attempts to bathe herself in the spill-off of those perdominantly more famous sportsmen leads to what is left of her respectability to be horribly tarnished, and paves the way for mediocre tongue in cheek blogs such as "Sporting Mind"(tm).
The irony of course is the double standard. If Falzon was a struggling rugby league player doing exactly the same thing - trying to climb the ladder of notoriety while remaining a modest sportsman in their own right, the efforts would be lauded. Oh wait, we have exactly that happening in the form of Gold Coast Titan Daniel Conn. On a personal note, i would love to see Falzon play rugby league - purely to hear Ray Warren bellow "FAAAALLLZZONNNNN" after she makes a clean line-break.
While Conn is praised for his ability to snare an "adult-film star", Falzon is rubbished for her own urges and blatant efforts to remain a public figure. The difference of course, is that Conn has no hidden agenda. The insatiable Falzon however, will continue to get her face in the papers for as long as there are indeed newspapers.
SportingMind eagerly awaits the next installment of the "Falzon-file", and will keep readers updated with the ongoings of her eventful romantic life. I have $100 wager on the next one being a Beijing hopeful, and odds are shortening on perennial head-line grabber Nick D'Arcy. I'm sure the lovely couple will be very happy.
