Aust v India Test Match...
October 12th 2008 22:44
Australia has given India a sniff of victory after a middle-order collapse on day 4 in Bangalore left the Australians at 5/193, 263 runs ahead of the Indian team. Shane Watson (35 n.o.) and Brad Haddin (28 n.o.) were the saviours for Australia, steering the side towards a possible early declaration today, leaving the game perfectly poised for a day 5 assault.
Shane Watson was overjoyed with his batting performance, saying: "I cant believe that i'm being asked questions at a press conference that don't involve me breaking down in tears over a recent injury.
"I just love my cricket these days. God, i love it. How good is it! Did you see me out there? I was HITTING RUNS!! And my achilles heel has NEVER FELT BETTER! God, i feel so alive..."
Brad Haddin was more subdued at the press conference, lamenting Watson's return to form. Haddin said: "We are used to seeing Shane hurt himself and go home around this time in a tour, so to see him healthy and hitting runs is as surprising to us as it is to him.
"Unfortunately his ego has swelled up a bit, he's begun referring to himself as the "piece de resistance", which i think is a bit rich, really."
The lack of a specialist spinner has the Australian selectors worried, with the recent withdrawal of Bryce McGain leaving Michael Clarke and Cameron White as the spin attack on a crumbling Day 5 Bangalore wicket. McGain's injury was unfortunate for the 36 year old IT consultant, but he is actually playing a pivotal role behind the scenes this tour. McGain was commissioned to update the Cricket Australia website and to update the new firewall settings on the ICC "intranet".
"Bear" has proved the perfect foil for "Pup", both on the field and off. Selected as room mates, there was some cause for concern in rooming a common bear with a small puppy, but Bear has instead been feasting on bamboo shoots and small, very disposable Indian men - of which there are no shortage in Bangalore.
Day 5 of the test match resumes at 3.00 p.m. (EST) on Fox Sports 2.
