Great College football on 12/30

After all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Holiday I finally got to sit down unwind and watch some bowl games on Thursday. I thought they were very entertaining and stood for what NCAA football is all about. Just like any other saturday in the NCAA there were surprises and controversy. In the Armed Forces Bowl secon year coach Rich Ellerson Led Army to their first winning season since 1996 with a 16-14 win over SMU. Josh McNary scooped up a fumble and returned it for 55 yards for a touchdown to help seal the victory for the Black Knights. The first Pinstripe Bowl which was played between Syracuse and Kansas State was a very exciting sluggfest. RB Delone Carter rushed for a carrer high 198 yards and 2 TD's for Syracuse. Daniel Thomas rushed for TD's for Kansas St. In the end Syracuse came out on top 36-34 but not after some controversy. Adrian Hilburn slipped a tackle and raced to a 30-yard touchdown catch with 1:13 remaining to pull Kansas State within two. Hilburn saluted the crowd behind the visitor’s dugout and was flagged 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, which pushed the 2-point conversion attempt back to the 17-yard line. After the failed attempt Syracuse went own to victory. Excessive celebration REALLY! North Caroline deafeted Tennessee in the Music City Bowl 30-27 in double ot in a wild finish. The game was first called over after mass confusion on the field with NC trying to spike the ball with time running out in regulation. The refs called the game over and Tenn. begin their celebration. In a wild turn of events their was a penalty flag on the field. NC was called with too many men on the field and pentalized. This give NC a shot at the field goal which was good and tied the game sending it to overtime. The refs had claimed that their was one second left on the clock. NC went on to win in ot. The same thing happened to Tenn. earlier in the year at LSU which give LSU a shot at the winning td with no time on the clock. Wow what luck! Finally the last game of the evening was the Holiday Bowl where Washington defeated Nebraska. Jake Locker bounced back from an injury he said looked worse than it was, scoring on a 25-yard run in the third quarter to help Washington to a 19-7 victory No. 17 Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl on Thursday night. This was a great day of NCAA footbal that only led me to rest up so I can watch the rest of the bowl season games!
